Process Systems for Sugar
Sugar is an important component of our daily carbohydrate intake. The main application in food, including beverages, is sweetening. Important industrial properties of food products containing sugar are flow properties, appearance, solubility, dust content and taste. Besides numerous sugar grinding processes, Hosokawa Micron is very familiar with mixing and agglomeration processes involving sugar. One specific application is icing sugar coating, to produce a hydrophobic (non-hygroscopic) powdered sugar for decorative means in the bakery sector.
Equipment for Several Processes
The Hosokawa Group provides complete solutions for sugar processing, including:
- Agglomeration with the Flexomix to create an open and easily accessible structure for better solvability (for instance for vending machines or cocoa drink mixtures) and/or improved flow properties (for instance for tablet press for sweets).
- De-dusting, to decrease risk of dust explosions and improve maintenance intervals of equipment, and coating processes can be carried out using the Cyclomix high shear batch mixer.
- Gentle homogenization and accurate mixing of sugar containing powder mixes (for instance in the bakery industry) can be carried out excellently in traditional Nauta® conical mixers.
- For size reduction / milling, Hosokawa Alpine offers the Sugarplex fine impact mill.
All our technologies are designed according to the latest dust explosion prevention standards (ATEX directives). Hosokawa Micron B.V. is also an active EHEDG member and we always take current hygienic engineering guidelines, such as EHEDG and 3-A, into account when designing, manufacturing and implementing food processing equipment.
